Geneva City Walks - Piscine de Carouge
This walk is close to my home so when I have both baby and dog in tow, is one of my go-to’s!
It’s not the most exciting or longest walk, but it has its advantages being a pedestrian zone and a leash-free zone for dogs.
Total walking time: approx. 20 minutes out and back.
The start of the walk is on the Carouge side of Pont de la Fontenette, on Promenades des Orpailleurs.
The GPS map of the route can be found here.
It is paved all the way and there are two play parks at each end of the walk, which could be a stop for you. It’s an out and back route, between the two bridges. There is a sizeable fenced in play park which is also a BBQ area at the end of the path, just before Pont du Val d’Arve. Dogs are not allowed in here, so I normally put Luka in a down stay by the fence closest to where we are playing.
The second play park is back towards the city centre, beyond Pont de la Fontenette, by going under the bridge via the underpass (beyond here is not a leash-free zone) heading along the river towards Pont de Carouge. There is a small fenced in Play Park here too, in front of the creche.
Another nice aspect of this walk is that it runs alongside the Arve, which is nice and cooling on a hot summer’s day. There are a number of beaches that are accessible along the way for your dog to have a splash around. If you have a pram with you though, you’ll have to park your pram on the path and walk down to the river.
All in all, it’s an understated but pretty good walk to do with the whole family since it has a little something for everyone. It’s also a great option if you want to let your furry and fur-less babies burn off some steam before going into Carouge for a meal or coffee.
Fun factor for child: 4/5 Practise scooting/cycling along the pedestrian path and play in the play park
Fun factor for dog:5/5 Sniff around in the wooded path closest to the river and have a splash around in the river. Play with all the dogs that walk along here!
Pram-friendly: Yes
Water access for dogs: Yes
Potable Water: During the summer months, there is a small fountain by the entrance of Piscine de Carouge.
Leash-free zone: Yes
Baby changing facilities: No (But there are plenty of benches along this path where I’ve had to change Kai before!)
Other notes: At certain times and at weekends, it can get quite busy with joggers, dog walkers and cyclists so please keep a close eye on your children so they don’t get knocked over.
