Pony Ride at Belle Ferme, Gex, FR

Since Kai is obsessed with horses, and having just celebrated his 2nd birthday, we felt it was the right time to let him experience his first pony ride.

We went with our friends who introduced us to the Belle Ferme stables in Gex, just outside Geneva and it was a great activity for the kids! They have a huge number of ponies, and seemed very well set up to accommodate the smallest of pony riders.

It costs €24 for 30 minutes for a pony ride led by the parent and open to children from two years of age.

We got there a little early to let Kai watch the adults riding horses for a while which he always loves.

About 15 minutes before our allotted time, the kids were fitted with tiny helmets and mounted on the ponies who were led around the indoor paddock to let them get comfortable on the ponies for about 20 minutes. Kai was riding Snow, a gentle white Shetland Pony and his friend Edie was on Astrix, an even tinier brown Shetland Pony!

We then did a small loop around the grounds outside, which was a nice way for them to experience this 30 minute pony ride.

Unfortunately there wasn’t a place where Luka could get off the lead to have a walk around, so he didn’t have the best time, but the stables informed me that dogs are welcome as long as they are well behaved and kept on a lead. Luka made friends with the resident dogs and watched from the side line for a little while.

After the ride was finished, they let the children brush the pony, which I thought was a nice touch and made the experience a bit more special.

Kai looked very serious the whole time he was riding the pony, but he thoroughly enjoyed his first pony ride. We’ll definitely be taking him for a pony ride again!

Fun factor for child: 5/5 - Look at the horses in the fields and paddocks, go on a pony ride!

Fun factor for dog: 1/5 - Shame there are no paths nearby that a dog can go on a walk, but it is a different experience than your usual walk!
