Pony Ride at Poney Club de Presinge, Geneva

Pony Ride at Poney Club de Presinge, Geneva

It’s been a while since we’ve had our last pony ride, so I looked for some options within Geneva to take Kai and his friend who was visiting us from London who was to experience her first ever pony ride! It was a hit with the kids and it’s always very cute to see your tiny kids riding on tiny ponies.

This stables is very much set up for young riders who are eager to start out their horse riding careers.

The club is accessible by public transport, bus stop Jussy, l’Abbaye on bus line C which drops you directly outside the entrance. There is also a car park on site.

As you walk into the main entry way, the reception is immediately to your left. There, you pay for your pony ride once you’re done and can find a toilet and vending machine which provides some snacks and coffee, if you so need.

The ponies greet you just behind the reception area on the left. For young riders, there is a 3-hour slot where you can ride a pony on a drop-in basis at the weekends, between 2pm and 5pm. A 20 minute ride costs CHF10. If you want to ride for longer, you take more loops and pay for each loop you do.

Pony rides are available for children over 2 years old.

You simply wait by the ponies and wait for those who are currently out on a walk to come back from their tour, if they are out at the time you arrive.

Grab a helmet from the box just inside the big door next to where the ponies graze.

We waited probably the full 20 minutes for the ponies to come in, but this proved no problem as the kids enjoyed petting and feeding the ponies. Right next door is also the indoor arena where young horse riders were training with their horses on the jumps. There are of course a few dogs around too, looking for someone to scratch their backs.

The ponies are very cute and tame, Kai doesn’t normally like to touch horses as they’re so big but the ponies pretty much stand at the same height as them so he was happy to give them a little scratch on the nose.

Once the ponies are ready, you simply get your child onto the saddle and off you go!

It’s a short out and back route, but all the children looked delighted. Kai was riding Kiwi, a black Shetland pony, and his friend Ava was on Cookie, a tiny brown and white Shetland pony.

Having experienced pony rides at both Belle Ferme in Gex and La Gavotte now, I have to say this strikes the happy medium between the two, of being professional and a good price point for the service they provide. I particularly liked that you could do the pony ride as a taster for one loop, or if your child is keen to stay on longer, you can simply do multiple loops.

It was a short visit to the stables as we got there at the end of the day and the ride finished at 5pm. Next time we will definitely go earlier so we have the option to ride two rounds if the kids want to.

Being a horse stables, of course there are lots of dogs around, I was told by staff dogs are welcome as long as they don’t disrupt the horses or other dogs and kept on a lead. It seems every one who works there and owns a dog brought theirs, as I counted 5 dogs roaming around whilst we were there.

They offer weekly classes to children over 2 here, I’m seriously considering signing Kai up to classes there given his love of horses and ponies. I feel like this stable would be a great option location-wise for us to do that and the perfect introduction to horse riding.

A highly recommended activity for any parent with a budding little horse-rider!
