Geneva Hiking with Dogs - September 2024 - Bois de la Bâtie
It’s been a while since I regularly organised these walks and it’s back!
If you are interested in joining one of the walks, you will find the group on meetup.com, Facebook and glocals.com where I post any walks being organised. Myself and Luka would love to see you on one of the walks and discover new walks together.
This month’s edition took place at Bois de la Bâtie. We had some old friends join as well as new faces and also one person who recently arrived in Geneva and doesn’t have dogs but loves them. I really love that this is a thing that brings dogless dog-lovers a bit of doggy love.
We had 7 lively dogs who all got along famously and we started the walk along the cemetary.
This section from Bois de la Bâtie off leash area is a legal leash-free zone year round, and one of the biggest ones in Geneva so a great option if you want to have your dogs off leash but not have to venture too far from Geneva city centre.
We walked until we got to Pont Butin, which is a big bridge which links Petit-Lancy to Chatelaine. We then walked along the small path on the other side of the Rhone back towards St Jean. The paths here split sometimes but if you keep going down towards the river, you will eventually get to the same path which goes along the Rhone.
On this side of the Rhone, you will find a pretty sizeable beach which is popular with picnic’ers and people having a BBQ (so watch out if you have a dog that likes to steal/pick up food!).
Since it’s pretty cold these days, there were just a couple of swimmers. The water dogs enjoyed the dip here whilst others watched from ashore.
The walk loops back to the start via the Junction Viaduct, which is always a nice treat (unless you and/or your dog has a fear of heights) because from here you can see the Rhone and the Arve joining.
We ended our walk back at Sadara which is very much dog-friendly and a couple of us stopped here for a post-walk tea.
This walk was the perfect way to tire out a bunch of dogs to make for a peaceful Sunday afternoon!
