Geneva City Walks - Walk along the lakefront

This is not a walk we do regularly, though every time we do, I’m reminded how lucky we are to live in such a pretty city!

Today was a remarkably warm and sunny Saturday so we decided to head down to the lakefront for once.

Everyone else clearly had the same idea and it was really crowded but that didn’t bother Kai! In fact, there were lots of things to look at like chase bubbles and feed the swans, or spot the tourist train going by so it’s a fun weekend walk to do.

Total walking time: You can do both sides of the lake between Perle du Lac, across Mont Blanc bridge and up to Parc La Grange. That would probably take 45 minutes-1 hour. We started the walk from Jardin Anglais and continued onto Parc La Grange to visit the play park and dog park there, so this segment took only around 20 minutes.

Just under the footbridge in front of Le Lacustre restaurant, there are always lots of ducks and swans around, so this is a nice place to stop to watch the birds and the boats going by.

Then we walked up towards Jardin Anglais where of course the famous flower clock is. Right along the lake here, we came across two guys making bubbles which Kai was very excited about and we were stopped here for quite some time while he chased bubbles screaming “BUBBLES!” at the top of his lungs.

We then continued along the lake, keeping along Quai Gustave-Ador until we hit Baby Plage and made our way into Parc La Grange by crossing the road.

The tourist train runs along here too, so Kai was very keen to point out every time it went by! This tourist train goes up along the lake and dogs are welcome too so a nice option if you want to cover more ground quickly with your visitors in town. We even managed to get the pram on if you take one of the bigger carriages.

There are a number of points where you can go down to the lake in case your dog wants to splash around, though along the lake front, it is strictly forbidden to let your dog off the lead. I’ve known of several dog owners being handed hefty fines for having their dogs off the lead so be warned!

A great option on a sunny day, if you don’t mind the crowds during the warmer months!

Fun factor for child: 4/5 -watch the swans and enjoy the entertainers along the lake front

Fun factor for dog: 2/5 - a leashed walk with the family along the lake beats staying at home!

Pram-friendly: Yes

Water access for dogs: Yes but they must be kept on a lead

Potable water: Yes there are a number of fountains dotted along the lake front, some of which are operational year-round

Baby changing facilities: No, though if you make a stop at La Potinière restaurant, they have a changing table there.
