Geneva Hiking with Dogs - July Edition - Nant d'Avril, Satigny

I happen to also be the organiser of a group called Geneva Hiking with Dogs, which I do on a voluntary basis and has been running for around 2.5 years now!

Walks generally take place around once a month, and I try to do them in different locations to encourage people living in all corners of Geneva and the surrounding areas to attend.

If you are interested in joining one of the walks, you will find the group on meetup.com, Facebook and glocals.com

As we are now out of fawning season, and it being very hot, I chose to do the walk at Nant d’Avril since this route is mostly shaded with plenty of access to water for the dogs. For full details of the walk and route, check out my post about it!

We had a lively group of 10 dogs who enjoyed a pack hike! Some new faces and old, which is always nice. We had our first Shiba and Jack Russels (two of them, in fact!) attend this walk.

A lot of other people had the same idea to walk their dogs here for the shade and water so it was a walk full of doggy encounters.

Since it was so hot, even the non-water loving dogs had a paddle. The Nant d’Avril is great for dogs if they don’t actually like to swim, since most of the beaches are very shallow so dogs of almost any size can simply take a paddle without losing touch with the ground. Of course the water-dogs were diving in at the deep end and having the time of their lives!

We started the walk along the stream and finished through the forest, the latter part having no water access. So by the time we got back to the start point, the dogs were hot and thirsty so they enjoyed at drink (or a dip!) at the water fountain in front of Cafe de Peney before heading home and crashing out for the afternoon.

This was yet another great walk with our friendly pooches, looking forward to the next edition!
