Child and Dog-Friendly Restaurant - un R de Famille
We live just around the corner from this restaurant, but it was our first time going there for their weekly Sunday brunch. It was a wonderful experience!
The buffet was delicious, with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit options, as well as popular kids choices including pasta with bolognese sauce.
They are also open as a restaurant during the week as well, and cater for children’s birthday parties.
Check out their website here.
In order to go for Sunday brunch, you will need to call by Friday afternoon 6pm to book and reserve your table. Brunch costs CHF39 for one hot drink and unlimited food from the buffet. Kids under the age of 2 eat for free, and from 2 to 14 years old, it costs CHF2 per year of age. Not bad!
The brunch runs from 10:30am to 15:00.
We had made our booking for 11am, so that we had time to eat and get back home in time for Kai’s nap. The food is freshly prepared and topped up regularly. Since we were one of the earlier ones there, the buffet was never too crazy, we could go up and serve ourselves at our leisure which was nice! By the time we left at 12:30 it was starting to get pretty busy in there with big groups arriving.
On the buffet, there were meats, cheeses, a few types of quiches, empanadas, a good salad selection, penne with bolognese sauce, rice with chicken in cream sauce and a few cakes and pastries as well as whole fruits and fruit salad. I pretty much sampled everything and it was all very tasty! You can also order boiled eggs from the kitchen for your child.
When you book your table, they ask you how many children are coming and how old they are, so they can give you a high chair and lay out children’s cutlery at your table. There is also a stack of plastic plates and cutlery alongside the adults’ at the buffet counter, which is a nice touch. You just need to bring a bib for your child, if you child uses one.
When I enquired about bringing the dog, they said that they advise against it just because there are a lot of children running around the place for brunch, and some parents are nervous about having dogs near their children. I totally get that, and in an enclosed space such as this, the presence of a relatively big dog like Luka could be enough to make people nervous even though he poses no threat. However, I did see one small dog in there so if you have a small dog who is well behaved I think it would be no problem.
On any other day for lunch, dogs are more than welcome. They even have a terrace out the back which would be lovely on a sunny day!
The major plus of brunch here is that this restaurant also has a play room at the back, and children can play in there under the supervision of a nanny. We didn’t avail of this service this time as Kai was practically falling asleep at the table as he ate, but this is a really wonderful touch for parents to be able to enjoy their meal and know that the children are kept entertained.
Please note that the play room is not open on a normal day, though I have been here with friends for a coffee during the week where they did allow us to access the play room when we enquired about it the day before. Of course, in this type of situation there is no nanny to look after your children in the play room so you will have to supervise your children.
In summary, this understated restaurant is a great option for a family meal out, I highly recommend it!
