Geneva Hiking with Dogs - March Edition - Versoix
I happen to also be the organiser of a group called Geneva Hiking with Dogs, which I do on a voluntary basis and has been running for a little over two years now!
Walks generally take place around once a month, and I try to do them in different locations to encourage people living in all corners of Geneva and the surrounding areas to attend.
If you are interested in joining one of the walks, you will find the group on meetup.com, Facebook and glocals.com
This month’s edition of Geneva Hiking with Dogs took place in the woods in Versoix. We had a big group of 13 lovely dogs who all enjoyed the pack walk
This is a great walk that would also be possible to do with your kids walking or in the carrier, as there are only one or two short climbs.
Total Walking time: 1.5 hours
For some reason the website I use was missing a track on part of this route so I couldn’t highlight the actual route. I’ve written a verbal description that should be fairly clear to help you find your way. For the route, click here.
It’s a designated leash-free zone and almost all of the route is along the canal or river, so a good option on a hot summer’s day.
We started the walk from the school car park, on Route de Saint-Loup which is free on Sundays. It’s also easily accessible via train and bus, if you don’t have a car.
You walk along the canal for around 1km until you come to a small car park under the motorway (be careful with your dogs here as you are close to a road).
Take a left down the gravel path towards the woods. Immediately after the gate you can take a right into the woods by descending a small path which takes you along the river. Otherwise you can also stay on the main walking path just outside of the woods.
You stay along the river until you eventually cross a small pedestrian bridge and take a right, again keeping next to the river in the opposite direction to bring you back to the small car park under the motorway.
From here take the canal path back to the car park. It was a lovely walk today and despite having 13 dogs attending, everyone got along and had a great run around!
I look forward to the next walk, though I am due with my second baby in April so not sure when the next walk will be. Watch this space….!
